New International Research Project Led by RADISH Principal Investigator

We are proud to share that Krzysztof Wieczerzak, Principal Investigator of the RADISH project, has been appointed as the coordinator of a new international research project entitled BOR4MACH – Next-Generation Boride-Based Coatings for Enhanced Machining of Nickel Superalloys. The project will be carried out over the next 24 months by an international consortium consisting of Rzeszów University of Technology, Empa, Platit AG, and Ultratech Sp. z o.o., bringing together more than 30 researchers and specialists from Poland and Switzerland.

The project focuses on developing a new generation of boride-based protective coatings designed for machining nickel superalloys, which are among the most challenging engineering materials used in aerospace and energy applications. By combining high-throughput materials science, advanced characterization techniques, and industrial validation, the consortium aims to accelerate the discovery and optimization of coatings based on titanium and tantalum borides. These materials are expected to offer superior hardness, wear resistance, and high-temperature oxidation resistance, ultimately improving tool lifetime and manufacturing efficiency.

The BOR4MACH project strongly aligns with the RADISH philosophy of accelerating materials discovery through data-driven and high-throughput approaches. Material libraries containing hundreds of different compositions and processing conditions will be synthesized and evaluated using automated screening platforms capable of generating thousands of measurements. The most promising solutions will then be validated under real industrial conditions. We congratulate Dr. Wieczerzak and all project partners on this exciting achievement and look forward to the scientific and technological advances that will emerge from this international collaboration.
