RADISH at the fibTOF User Meeting

On September 3, the Principal Investigator of the RADISH project, Krzysztof Wieczerzak, delivered an invited presentation during the fibTOF User Meeting organized by TOFWERK.

The talk, entitled “Compositional Fingerprints and Matrix Effects in FIB-ToF-SIMS Analysis of Thin-Film Alloy Libraries,” focused on the use of compositionally graded thin-film alloy libraries to systematically investigate matrix effects in FIB-ToF-SIMS. Krzysztof also discussed the potential of characteristic multi-isotope SIMS response patterns to serve as compositional fingerprints for future data-driven quantification approaches. This methodology closely aligns with the high-throughput philosophy of the RADISH project, where large and systematically generated datasets are used to better understand complex materials and accelerate their characterization.

The meeting brought together a focused group of experts working with FIB-ToF-SIMS. Krzysztof had the opportunity to present alongside an excellent group of scientists and specialists, including Prof. William Rickard from the John de Laeter Centre, Curtin University, Australia, Paul Wallace from Stanford University, USA, as well as Ruthger van Zwieten, Valentine Riedo-Grimaudo, and James Whitby from TOFWERK.

The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss current challenges in FIB-ToF-SIMS analysis, and learn more about ongoing developments in the field. The discussions also highlighted the potential of combining advanced analytical techniques with high-throughput experiments and data-driven methods, opening new possibilities for more efficient and quantitative materials characterization.

It is particularly encouraging to see a growing community forming around this technique. With its unique capabilities for high-resolution elemental and isotopic analysis, the importance of FIB-ToF-SIMS is expected to continue growing in the coming years.

Many thanks to TOFWERK, Bruker, the organizers, speakers, and all participants for the invitation and the very interesting discussions.
